Juveniles

Visits are allowed at any time from parents, brothers and sisters. Please refrain from visits at meal time (11:00 a.m. & 5:00 p.m.) and during adult visitation. Visitors are allowed one 15 minute visit per session. Inmates are allowed two15 minute visits per session. (Must be different visitors)

No one under the age of 18 will be allowed to visit unless accompanied by a parent or legal guardian during the visit. You will not be allowed to visit an inmate if you have been an inmate at the Codington County Detention Center within the last six months or are currently on Probation or Parole.

All inmates reserve the right to refuse a visit.

Drop Off and Pickup Times for Inmate Personal Property

Tuesday – 6:00 pm to 10:00 pm
Wednesday – 12:00 pm to 4:00 pm
Friday – 12:00 pm to 4:00 pm
Sunday – 12:00 pm to 10:00 pm

Medication may be dropped off at anytime.

Commissary

Orders are due Friday by 7am and will be received the following Tuesday (holidays or weather may delay shipment)
Inmates are able to transfer commissary money to be used as phone time. We also have a kiosk in our lobby that accepts cash or card. There is a fee.

Inmates will also be allowed the following:

Personal Photographs – Limit of 4
Legal Papers
(Excess amounts of letters and legal papers will be placed in inmate lockers)
Books ( Soft Cover) – Limit of 3 (no sexually explicit or pornographic material)
Magazines – Limit of 3 (no sexually explicit or pornographic material)
Eyeglasses – No eyeglass cases
Contacts – Contact container and solution (must be new / sealed bottle)
Hearing Aids, dentures, etc

MEDICATIONS

All prescription medications must be current and in original container.
All prescriptions will be verified by medical staff before being dispensed.
Medications can be dropped off at any time

About The Detention Center

Matt Blackwelder is the Chief Corrections Officer of the Codington County Regional Detention Center, which is a 96 bed facility providing inmate care for Codington County as well as other contract counties nearby. The Detention Center is a co-located facility providing juvenile care as well as holding all sentenced and pretrial adult inmates. The Codington County Regional Detention Center provides work release functions as ordered by the court and the work release rules set by the Detention Center. The Detention Center also serves as a 24/7 sobriety checkpoint, carrying out all court ordered sobriety checks 24 hours a day.

It is the mission of the Codington County Regional Detention Center to provide a safe, humane and secure place for the detention of all persons committed to the custody of Codington County and all contract jurisdictions.

The Sheriff’s Office must protect the community and securely hold persons that the Court has determined pose a threat or have a debt to pay to society. Our mission is not to punish, but to provide an environment to carry out the orders of the Court in a cost-effective manner.

The Sheriff recognizes that our staff is our biggest asset and strives to promote education and foster careers within the Detention Center.

It is the goal of the Codington County Regional Detention Center staff to return inmates to the community in better condition, physically and emotionally, understanding that rehabilitation is a personal decision that can only be made by the individual inmate.

The Sheriff provides service to the community through inmate labor by promoting effective work-release programs and maintaining employment of sentenced inmates within the guidelines set forth by this office.
