Typical Duties and Responsibilities Patrol assigned areas to enforce laws, issue citations, make arrests, investigate violations, and prevent criminal activity. Serve civil and criminal warrants, subpoenas, summons, and other processes. Transport prisoners to courtrooms, prison, medical facility, and other locations as needed. Investigate illegal and\/or suspicious activities and persons. Arrest violators, sign complaints, prevent disturbances. Locate and place persons under arrest. Transport persons on arrest warrants into custody. Investigate domestic violence and other disturbances. Assist with traffic control during accidents, funerals, and other incidents where traffic flow is interrupted. Assist with the dispatching, radio, and telephone duties, weather observation, fire and ambulance calls, and any other communication activities. Testify in court. Maintain courtroom security. Carry out orders and enforce directions from State and Federal Court Systems. Maintain records and complete required reports as deemed necessary. Assist in vehicle maintenance. Attend training sessions and meetings as required. Wear Personal Protective Equipment as deemed necessary. Perform duties in a manner consistent with safe practices. Perform other such duties and functions as deemed necessary. Minimum Qualifications High School Diploma or G.E.D. Certification. Ability to obtain Certification by the South Dakota Law Enforcement Officers Training Academy. Must be 21 years of age or older at the time of appointment. Ability to demonstrate good communication skills. Ability to maintain a professional relationship with the general public and other employees. Ability to function effectively under stressful conditions. Fingerprint and photograph inmates. Issue jail clothing, bedding, and hygiene items to inmates. Check inmates on a regular basis. Assist in jail safety and security procedures to include the control of weapons, contraband, keys, tools, doors, and other related safety procedures. Deliver meals to inmates. Disperse medications to prisoners as directed by medical professionals. Supervise daily exercise and recreation of inmates. Assist in assigning inmates to work details. Document all incidents and complete required reports. Testify in court as required. Collect money, cash bonds, work release, 24\/7 fees, etc. Enforce jail rules and regulations. Attend training sessions and meetings as required. Wear personal protective equipment as deemed necessary. Perform duties in a manner consistent with safe practices. Perform other duties and functions as deemed necessary. \u00a0 Minimum Qualifications \u00a0 High School Diploma or G.E.D. Certification. Ability to obtain one (1) week Jailer training certification within 12 months of hire date. No prior felony criminal record. Knowledge or procedures of detention facilities, codes, and statutes that apply to detention and legal process or possess the ability to learn such procedures. Ability to demonstrate good communication skills.
